It's Done!!

I finished my "Back to Square One" top!. I am so happy that I stayed caught up with this every month because it was a lot of fun. I love Judy's mysteries because we have a month to complete each step and I have a better chance of not getting behind. I already have the backing for this so it will get quilted as soon as my quilter brings my other quilts back. I think it will look lovely on that bed when I get it quilted too!

I'm missing my quilting buddies......

I have enjoyed spending time with family and we still have one more Christmas to go on Saturday.  But I am missing my quilting friends... I need some me time to sew and visit with my girls.....

I guess we have to wait until Tuesday.  Hope you all can make it....

Happy New Year, Everyone.

Merry Christmas.......

We spent yesterday at my Mom's for Christmas.  My kiddos were there and my four year old grandson.    We received the greatest gift of all from my son and daughter-in-love.......see photo.

This is their third pregnancy as the first two babies are with Jesus due to miscarriages.   This time Casey has already heard the heartbeat and things are going well, except for morning sickness, and the baby is due in August..   Prayers for a healthy pregnancy are always welcome..

Poppy Joey made a special gift for Cayden.  But Cayden was told it was a gift for Poppy and he had to help uncover it....Poppy made a riding horse for Cayden from wood.  I will post a picture as soon as I get them off my camera...Cayden was embarrassed and shy, he was a little confused....but he took to riding his horse and had a lot of fun with it....

Last year we started doing Dirty Santa.  Always fun for us big kids....

I pray each of you have a wonderful celebration of Jesus birth, enjoy your families, and have a great time playing with your fabrics........I'm off to bind a quilt.....

PATRIOTIC MINIATURE QUILT

This is my rendition of the "Shifting Directions" quilt pattern from American Patchwork & Quilting, August 2013.  I drafted a mini pattern and made this patriotic miniature quilt.  It measures 7 3/4" X 10" overall.  The navy blue squares are 3/8".

It was good to be back at our Tuesday night quilting after missing last week because of the weather.  Everyone had their own story to tell about how we managed to deal with the ice storm.  We will not meet again until January 7th because of the holidays.   MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!

Sister's retreat and Pink Breeze Quilt

My sister and I had a nice "sister's quilt retreat" - just the two of us.   First time we have ever taken a trip together.   We took quilty stuff and everything else we needed to spend 3 days & 4 nights in a cabin at Mt. Nebo State Park.  We enjoyed having a fire in the wood heater each evening and there was still a lot of fall color.   I was able to cut out all the pieces for my "Pink Breeze" and my sister worked on various projects including a Christmas stocking for her newest grandson.   Since I have been back home, I have been working on my Pink Breeze and finished the top Wednesday afternoon.   It appears that my seam allowances were a bit small (although everything seemed to match up as it was supposed to do) because the top was 2" longer and wider than it was supposed to be - if I figured accurately.   Then using the leftover triangles from trimming the pink corners on each block, I was able to add a sawtooth border to the outside.   I only had to make 10 extra HST's.  It now measures 90" X 102".   My hubby has already claimed it and I still have to mark the top and quilt it.  I should have closed the blinds before taking the pics.

Just a reminder we are not meeting tonight.

I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.  I am thankful for all of you being my friends and my quilting family.  Enjoy your family time and see ya next week.

I was by Lowes yesterday and picked up paint chips for the new Bonnie Hunter mystery.  The colors are bright and beautiful.

Deer hunting...well not exactly.....

Last Sunday I was coming back from taking my grandson to meet his Momma, about three miles from town a big 7 point decided to cross the highway.  Yes, I got him. Did quite a bit of damage to my blazer, it liked $500 totaling it.  So now I am driving DH's truck until he gets it repaired.  Thank goodness I had full coverage.  Now if that check would show up we could get started fixing it.

We did take the deer, with a little help from sheriff deputy to load it.  And we gave it away.

When DH was getting to me on the highway, we were talking so I could tell him exactly where I was and a doe ran across in front of him.  Had he been driving any faster he would have gotten her.  Man, that would have really made for a bad day.

Be careful driving...these guys are on the prowl right now.

You know if I was going to deer hunt, I much prefer to use a gun.  Lol

Retreat Project, Mini Lone Star, Mini Prairie Moon & Stars

I've made two test blocks for the McCall's "Blue Breeze" retreat project.   I am going to make mine in Pink & White.  I've got to find the name for this block.   Of course I want to try making it in miniature.

I finished quilting & binding this miniature Lone Star last night.  Now I just have to sew the sleeve in place.  It is 11 1/8" square overall.  Why doesn't it look square in the pic???

Here's the finished top for the Prairie Moon & Stars -  Another mini.   It's about 12" X 14 1/2".   I'm considering taking out and replacing the dark block in the lower right corner.

I'll be asking the Tue night Pickles to be guinea pigs and taste test a new appetizer recipe tomorrow night. We don't often bring cooked food but this will be like a snack.  It's a bread & cheese thing.  Hope it's yummy.

Back to Square One: October

For this month we had to make 12 of these star blocks. (At least I think I remember it being 12). Should start putting this together in November. I love how this is turning out.

Baby quilt

I am hand quilting a baby quilt for my daughter- in- loves sister.  The shower is Saturday. I've got a busy week ahead of me.  Too bad work gets in my way of being creative.  I only have maybe a third of it done. I have to be finished Friday so I can get it washed and wrapped. I'm using big fun stitches. And thinking I might should have used the machine to get it finished quicker. ;-). Plus my fingers are sore. Lol
  Hope she likes it.

New quilt in progress

This is made from the last blocks my mother-in-love was able to cut before it became too hard from macular degeneration.   The strips are from her DH's shirts.  This quilt is for them.

Blocks for QOV's Block Drive

I decided to make some blocks for Alycia at alyciaquilts.com. She is having a big block drive to help make some quilts for Veterans and service members. I made 20 of each and they are on their way to Colorado. I will be linking up with Judy at patchworktimes.com next week. I just don't have time to make a whole quilt to donate so this is the next best thing.

A4A top completed

I love this quilt.  A special thanks to Michele Foster for the pattern.

OOPS!

I just noticed that the picture of the Peony wall hanging was one I took before I added the binding.....and I really like the binding!   It's a small brown/tan/black plaid cut on the bias.

Peony Wall Hanging

The quilting is complete and the binding and sleeve are in place.   As soon as my DH gets my quilt hanger with shelf hung on the wall, I can hang my Peony wall hanging.    I think he just has to put on a final coat of something or other and it will be ready to hang.  Unfortunately, he had to go to Fort Smith this morning so I guess that means I'll have to wait patiently for his return.  This finished about 49" X 49".

I've started another mini-quilt top but still need to quilt the last one - a Radiant Star.  Here's my "Prairie Moon & Star" work in progress.  Each block will have a moon & star in the center.  I've cut the background pieces 6" so they will fit in my small embroidery hoop while I sew the blanket stitch around the moon & star which is fused in place.   I will probably finish the blocks at 2 1/2" to 2 3/4" square - then I'll add sashing strips.   Will plan a border (or not) later.

I'm looking forward to getting back with the group tomorrow night - hated to miss last week.  I hope to see some Radiant Star tops near completion or completed!

Back to Square One: September

I know I already posted my progress a couple of days ago but I didn't give my post a title and now I am having trouble linking it to the blog! So, bear with me if you are tired of seeing this! Love, love, love how this is turning out!

Shutdown. Prayers please.

I am not getting into the politics just asking for prayer for all workers effected by this shutdown. This includes co-workers whose wages are funded by the WIC Program. I'm just not sure if I am one of them.

Fall retreat has come and gone.....

But we all had a blast!  We enjoyed great fellowship, wonderful food (Louise we need recipes), lots of sewing, cutting, some ripping (mostly me I think), and laughing....a lot of laughing.    And awesome door prizes.    Woohoo.

Thanks ladies for tolerating all my coughing.   Hopefully I will be well for the next one.   ;-)

I admired everyone's quilts but for some reason I only took a few pictures.  Here they are.

Peggy's progress with our Friendship Star Swap

Wynema's Halloween Stained Glass.  (Sorry this is a little blurry)

Barbara's Crazy Nine Patch and Row Along

This is Peggy's also. I can't remember the name. But it is beautiful.

If anyone else has photos please post them.

This is my progress on aiming for accuracy.   Excuse the old flannel design wall. Lol it is pitiful isn't it.

Thanks again to Louise and Peggy for all you do.

Retreat Time - Yea!

Tomorrow afternoon Peggy & I will go set up for the retreat.  Almost everything I'm taking is loaded in the pickup.  This will be our largest retreat - 30 planning to attend.  I think that's the maximum number of quilters I can manage! We will play a new game that I hope will be fun and won't interfere with our play/work.  It's called "Spooling Around" and I modified it a bit to fit our needs a little better.  We will do the "Guess the number of Strips" contest on Friday and will award the winner Friday evening. Last year's winner won 277 strips!  That's almost 7 Jelly Rolls!  The real fun will begin Friday when everyone has arrived at the retreat.  I hope my "Friendship Star" blocks are not too gaudy - I was trying to take advantage of the opportunity to use some of my "not tiny" scale fabrics.  I hope this new facility will prove to be an ideal location for our
retreats.
I'm shooting some "prayer arrows" for Angela's quick recovery so she will be well enough to join us Friday.

This is my September clue for the Back to Square One Mystery Medallion.  We had to put a border on the top and make 24 log cabin blocks. It measures 64.5 right now so it will be a nice size. Except for the Square-in-a-square blocks (which gave me a little trouble for some reason), I have really enjoyed making this.
